The STARRETT 54613 is an A2 air-hardening tool steel flat stock bar intended for tool and die makers, machinists, and metalworking professionals who require tight dimensional control and consistent heat-treat response. Cut to 3/16 inches thick, 2 inches wide, and 18 inches long, this flat stock is ground to close tolerances: plus or minus 0.001 inches on thickness, plus or minus 0.001 inches on squareness, and a width tolerance of plus 0.000 to 0.005 inches. AISI A2 tool steel air-hardens with minimal distortion, making it a standard choice for punches, dies, gauges, and precision tooling components.
A2 air-hardening flat stock is used across job shops, toolrooms, and manufacturing facilities where dimensional stability during heat treatment is critical. The 18-inch length is suitable for blanking, machining to length, or using as-is in fixture and die applications. The 3/16 by 2 inch cross-section fits a wide range of flat die and blade profiles. This bar ships in single-piece quantity and is ready to machine in the annealed condition before hardening and tempering to application requirements.
Designed as a standard AISI A2 tool steel flat stock suitable for punches, dies, blades, gauges, and general precision tooling fabrication in annealed or hardened applications.
Machining and heat treatment should be performed by qualified tool and die makers or machinists familiar with A2 tool steel procedures. All cutting, grinding, and EDM operations should be completed prior to hardening. Follow the material manufacturer's published heat-treat schedule for austenitizing temperature, quench method, and tempering cycles. Proper personal protective equipment is required during all machining and heat-treat operations.
