The STARRETT 54567 is an A2 air-hardening tool steel flat stock bar used in tool and die making, jig fabrication, punch and die sets, and precision machining applications. It measures 3/16 inch thick, 1 inch wide, and 36 inches long, with a thickness tolerance of +/- 0.001 inch and a width tolerance of +0.000 to +0.005 inch. The length tolerance is +0.25 inch. Squareness is held to 0.003 inch per inch on all edges. This stock is supplied in the annealed condition, ready for machining prior to heat treatment by the end user.
A2 air-hardening tool steel flat stock is a standard material in tool rooms, machine shops, and fabrication facilities. Typical applications include blanking punches, forming dies, gages, and wear plates. The 36-inch bar length makes it suitable for cutting multiple blanks or machining full-length components. Installation and finishing work is performed by machinists, tool and die makers, and precision metalworkers operating conventional or CNC equipment.
Designed as a standard AISI A2 air-hardening tool steel flat stock bar suitable for general tool room and die-making applications requiring close dimensional tolerances.
Machining should be completed before heat treatment. Heat treating A2 tool steel requires proper austenitizing, quenching in still air, and tempering per the alloy specification — this work should be performed by a qualified heat treater or tool room professional. Standard machine shop tooling applies for sawing, milling, and grinding operations. Follow applicable shop safety procedures when handling bar stock and operating machining equipment.
