Measuring 0.15625 inches thick, 4 inches wide, and 36 inches long, this flat stock ships in an annealed condition and hardens uniformly through an air-quench cycle, minimizing distortion compared to oil- or water-hardening grades. Thickness tolerance is held to plus or minus 0.001 inches, making it suitable for applications where dimensional accuracy before hardening is critical. Weight is 7.33 pounds per piece.
A2 air-hardening flat stock is a standard shop material for fabricating punches, dies, blades, gauges, and general tooling components. It is used in both prototype and production tool shops, tool-and-die operations, and precision machine shops. Heat treatment, including austenitizing and air quenching, should follow the material manufacturer's published cycle for AISI A2 and must be performed by personnel familiar with tool steel heat treatment procedures. Appropriate personal protective equipment is required during all machining and heat treatment operations. Always verify dimensional tolerances after any grinding or heat treatment step before final use in tooling assemblies.
