The STARRETT 54511 is an O1 oil-hardening tool steel flat stock bar measuring 1 inch thick, 8 inches wide, and 36 inches long. O1 tool steel is a tungsten-alloyed, oil-quench grade valued for its dimensional stability during heat treatment and its ability to hold a sharp, precise edge after hardening. This flat stock is supplied in the annealed (soft) condition, ready for machining before hardening. It is used by toolmakers, machinists, and die shops that need close-tolerance raw material for making punches, dies, gauges, cutting tools, and fixtures. Thickness tolerance is held to plus or minus 0.001 inches.
