The STARRETT 54448 is an O1 oil-hardening tool steel flat stock bar used in toolmaking, die work, jig fabrication, and precision machining applications. Manufactured to AISI Type O1 specification, this flat stock measures 0.5 inches thick, 4.5 inches wide, and 36 inches long, weighing 22.95 pounds. Thickness tolerance is held to plus or minus 0.001 inches, making it suitable for applications where dimensional accuracy before hardening is critical. The O1 grade oil-hardens at relatively low quench temperatures, offering good dimensional stability during heat treatment and excellent machinability in the annealed state.
This flat stock is used in machine shops, tool rooms, and fabrication shops for producing punches, dies, gauges, cutting tools, and fixture components. It is supplied in the annealed condition, ready for machining prior to hardening. Machinists, toolmakers, and die makers working in both job shop and production environments typically work with this material. Its 36-inch length provides enough stock for multiple blanks depending on the finished part size.
Designed as a standard O1 oil-hardening flat stock bar suitable for general toolroom and die-making applications requiring AISI Type O1 material in 0.5 inch by 4.5 inch cross-section.
This material is machined prior to hardening by a qualified toolmaker or machinist. Follow appropriate shop safety procedures when cutting, grinding, or milling tool steel. Heat treatment should be performed by personnel familiar with AISI O1 specifications and applicable quench procedures. Wear appropriate PPE when handling bar stock of this size and weight.
