The STARRETT 54365 is an O1 oil-hardening tool steel flat stock bar intended for toolmakers, machinists, and die makers who need a reliable, machinable blank in the annealed condition. Conforming to AISI Type O1 material specification, this flat stock measures 0.25 inches thick, 1.25 inches wide, and 36 inches long, with a weight of 3.19 pounds per piece. Thickness tolerance is held to plus or minus 0.001 inches, making it suitable for precision tool and die applications where tight dimensional control before heat treatment is essential.
O1 tool steel flat stock is used in a wide range of toolroom and fabrication applications including punches, dies, gauges, cutting tools, and fixtures. This material is valued for its excellent machinability in the soft annealed state prior to oil-quench hardening. It is a standard choice in job shops, tool and die operations, and maintenance environments where custom tooling blanks are ground or milled to final geometry.
Designed as a standard O1 oil-hardening tool steel flat blank for use in toolroom, die-making, and general precision machining applications requiring AISI Type O1 material in flat bar form.
Machining and grinding should be performed in the annealed condition before heat treatment. Oil-quench hardening of O1 tool steel should be performed by a qualified heat treater following the material specification guidelines for austenitizing temperature and quench media. Always allow the bar to fully cool and stress-relieve as appropriate before finish grinding to final tolerance. Personal protective equipment including eye protection and cut-resistant gloves is required when handling and cutting tool steel stock.
