The STARRETT 54363 is a precision-ground O1 oil-hardening tool steel flat stock bar used in toolmaking, die making, jig fabrication, and general machining applications. Manufactured to AISI Type O1 specifications, this flat stock measures 0.25 inches thick, 0.75 inches wide, and 36 inches long, with a thickness tolerance of plus or minus 0.001 inches and a length tolerance of plus 0.015 inches. The tight dimensional control and squareness specification of 0.003 inches per inch on all edges make this stock suitable for applications where precise fit and finish are required prior to heat treatment. It weighs 1.91 pounds per bar.
O1 tool steel flat stock is a standard shop material used by tool and die makers, machinists, and metalworking professionals in both job shop and production environments. It is commonly used to fabricate punches, dies, blades, guides, and fixtures that require a good balance of toughness, wear resistance, and machinability in the annealed state before oil hardening. This bar is supplied in the soft, annealed condition and is intended to be machined to final shape before hardening.
Designed as a standard AISI O1 oil-hardening tool steel flat bar suitable for general toolmaking, die making, and precision machining applications requiring close dimensional tolerances.
Machining and heat treatment of tool steel should be performed by qualified machinists or tool and die makers familiar with O1 steel properties. The bar is supplied annealed and must be hardened and tempered per O1 heat treatment procedures after final machining. Use appropriate personal protective equipment and follow shop safety practices when cutting, grinding, or heat treating tool steel.
