The STARRETT 54287 is an O1 oil-hardening tool steel flat stock bar used in tool and die work, jig and fixture fabrication, punches, gauges, and precision machined components. Made from AISI Type O1 oil-hardening tool steel, this flat bar measures 3/32 inches thick, 4 inches wide, and 36 inches long. Thickness tolerance is held to +/- 0.001 inches, giving machinists and toolmakers the dimensional consistency needed for close-tolerance applications. At 3.84 pounds per piece, this is a full-length bar ready for layout, machining, and heat treatment.
O1 tool steel flat stock is a standard material in machine shops, tool rooms, and fabrication environments. It is commonly used to produce blanking dies, forming tools, cutting blades, and wear plates. This bar is supplied in the annealed condition, making it machinable before hardening. After machining, it is hardened by oil quenching and then tempered to the required hardness for the application. Machinists, toolmakers, and industrial maintenance technicians are the typical end users.
Designed as a standard O1 oil-hardening tool steel flat bar suitable for use in tool and die, jig and fixture, and general precision machining applications requiring AISI Type O1 material.
Cutting and machining should be performed in the annealed condition before oil quenching and tempering. Use appropriate personal protective equipment and machine guarding when sawing or milling tool steel bar stock. Heat treatment should be performed by qualified personnel following established procedures for O1 tool steel. Secure the workpiece firmly before any machining operation to prevent movement.
