The STARRETT 54267 is an O1 oil-hardening tool steel flat stock bar used in toolmaking, jig building, die work, and precision machining applications. Manufactured to AISI Type O1 specification, this flat stock measures 1/16 inch thick, 4 inches wide, and 36 inches long. Thickness tolerance is held to +/- 0.001 inches, and squareness along all edges is controlled to 0.003 inches per inch. The piece ships at approximately 2.55 pounds. It is intended for machinists, toolmakers, and metalworking shops that require consistent, hardenable stock that can be ground and finished to tight final dimensions before or after heat treatment.
O1 tool steel flat stock is used in shops producing punches, dies, fixtures, gauges, blades, and general toolroom work. Its oil-hardening grade makes it suitable for applications where water-hardening or air-hardening grades are not specified. This 36-inch length provides enough material for multiple short blanks or a single longer workpiece. The 4-inch width accommodates a wide range of flat tool and die blanks without requiring initial width reduction on most toolroom jobs.
Designed as a standard O1 oil-hardening tool steel flat stock for general toolroom, die, and fixture applications requiring AISI Type O1 material specification.
Cutting, grinding, and heat treatment of tool steel flat stock should be performed by qualified machinists or toolmakers familiar with O1 oil-hardening grades. Always follow appropriate shop safety procedures when sawing or grinding tool steel, including eye and respiratory protection. Heat treatment, including hardening and tempering of O1 steel, should follow established metallurgical procedures for this grade. Consult applicable shop standards or the material supplier data sheet before heat treating.
