The STARRETT 54145 is an O1 oil-hardening tool steel flat stock bar used in toolmaking, die making, jig and fixture fabrication, and precision machining applications. Manufactured to AISI Type O1 specifications, this flat stock measures 7/16 inches thick, 4 inches wide, and 18 inches long, and weighs approximately 8.92 pounds. Thickness tolerance is held to plus or minus 0.001 inches, making this stock suitable for applications where dimensional precision is critical before heat treatment. Licensed machinists, tool and die makers, and industrial fabricators work with this material in both shop and production environments.
This flat stock is used wherever O1 tool steel is specified for blanks, punches, dies, gauges, and cutting tools. The oil-hardening grade provides good toughness and wear resistance after hardening and is well suited to low-to-medium production tooling. The 4-inch width and 18-inch length make it appropriate for medium-sized tool blanks or can be cut down for smaller components. It ships as a single piece at the stated dimensions.
Designed as a standard O1 oil-hardening tool steel flat stock suitable for use in toolmaking, die making, and precision fabrication applications where AISI Type O1 material is specified.
Cutting, grinding, and machining of tool steel flat stock should be performed with appropriate metalworking equipment and personal protective equipment. Heat treatment of O1 steel should follow the material manufacturer's recommended hardening and tempering cycles for the intended application. Consult applicable shop safety standards and material data sheets before processing. Handle edges with care, as machined tool steel edges can be sharp.
