The STARRETT 54111 is an O1 oil-hardening tool steel flat stock bar used in toolmaking, die making, and precision machining applications. Manufactured to AISI Type O1 material specification, this flat stock measures 5/16 inch thick, 4 inches wide, and 18 inches long, with a weight of 6.38 pounds. Thickness tolerance is held to +/- 0.001 inch, and squareness is controlled to a maximum of 0.003 inch per inch on all edges. This level of dimensional accuracy makes it suitable for applications where blank stock must be machined, ground, or hardened to final dimensions by the end user.
O1 tool steel flat stock is widely used in tool and die shops, machine shops, and maintenance departments for fabricating punches, dies, gauges, fixtures, and cutting tools. The 5/16 inch thickness and 4 inch width provide a versatile starting blank for many common tooling profiles. This material is supplied in the annealed condition, ready for machining and subsequent oil-hardening heat treatment. Machinists, toolmakers, and maintenance technicians are the primary users of this stock.
Designed as a general-purpose O1 oil-hardening tool steel flat blank suitable for toolmaking, die making, and precision fixture fabrication applications requiring controlled dimensional tolerances.
Cutting, grinding, and machining of tool steel flat stock should be performed by qualified machinists or toolmakers using appropriate metalworking equipment. Oil-hardening heat treatment should be carried out following recognized metallurgical procedures for AISI O1 tool steel. Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment when cutting or grinding tool steel. Consult applicable shop safety standards and material handling guidelines before processing.
