The STARRETT 54103 is an O1 oil-hardening tool steel flat stock bar used in toolmaking, die work, jig fabrication, and precision machining applications. Manufactured to AISI Type O1 specification, this flat stock measures 5/16 inches thick, 3/4 inches wide, and 18 inches long, with a weight of 1.2 pounds. Thickness and squareness tolerances are held to plus or minus 0.001 inches, making it suitable for applications that require close dimensional control before and after heat treatment. Licensed machinists, tool and die makers, and metalworking shops are the primary users of this material.
This flat stock is used in the fabrication of punches, dies, gauges, cutting tools, and custom fixtures in both job-shop and production-floor environments. O1 tool steel machines well in the annealed state and responds predictably to oil-quench hardening. The 18-inch bar length provides a practical starting size for most toolroom applications. It is sold individually, with a minimum order quantity of one piece.
Designed as a standard AISI O1 oil-hardening tool steel flat bar suitable for general toolroom use, die making, and precision fixture fabrication wherever O1 specification material is specified.
This flat stock is supplied in the annealed condition and is intended to be machined, ground, and then heat treated by a qualified toolmaker or machinist. Follow established toolroom safety practices when cutting, grinding, or hardening tool steel. Oil-quench heat treatment should be performed by personnel familiar with applicable hardening procedures and thermal hazards. Wear appropriate PPE when handling freshly hardened stock.
