The STARRETT 54076 is an O1 oil-hardening tool steel flat stock bar sized at 0.25 inches thick, 2 inches wide, and 18 inches long. O1 is a general-purpose tool steel known for good machinability in the annealed state and reliable hardening response when quenched in oil. This flat stock is pre-dimensioned to close tolerances, making it ready for layout, machining, and fabrication of cutting tools, punches, dies, gauges, and jigs. It is supplied in the annealed condition. Machinists, toolmakers, and die makers are the primary users. At 2.55 pounds per piece, the bar is manageable for bench and mill work.
This flat stock is suited for tool and die shops, machine shops, and maintenance departments requiring reliable O1 material for short-run tooling and fixture work. Typical applications include blanks for hand reamers, taps, drill blanks, woodworking tools, and small dies. The annealed condition allows conventional milling, turning, and grinding before hardening. No compatibility with specific machine models is implied; this is a raw material stock item used wherever O1 tool steel flat bar is specified.
Designed as a standard O1 oil-hardening tool steel flat stock blank for use wherever AISI Type O1 material in a 0.25 inch by 2 inch cross-section is specified.
This is a raw material stock item worked by toolmakers and machinists using conventional milling, surface grinding, and sawing equipment. Secure the bar firmly in a vise or fixture before machining. When heat treating, follow the oil-quench procedure appropriate for AISI O1 tool steel and use proper personal protective equipment during quenching operations. Hardened pieces should be tempered promptly after quenching to relieve internal stress.
