The STARRETT 54071 is an O1 oil-hardening tool steel flat stock bar sized at 0.25 inches thick, 0.75 inches wide, and 18 inches long. Manufactured from AISI Type O1 tool steel, this flat stock is designed for toolmakers, machinists, and die makers who need a consistent, machinable blank that can be hardened after machining. Thickness tolerance is held to plus or minus 0.001 inches, and squareness is maintained at 0.003 inches per inch on all edges. These tight tolerances make the bar suitable for tool and die work, jigs, fixtures, gauges, and other precision toolroom applications.
O1 tool steel is one of the most widely used oil-hardening grades in toolroom environments. Its predictable heat-treat response and good dimensional stability after hardening make it a standard choice for punches, dies, cutting tools, and small fixture components. This flat bar ships in an 18-inch length, giving toolmakers a workable starting blank for a range of machined components in both job-shop and in-house maintenance settings.
Designed as a standard O1 oil-hardening tool steel flat stock blank suitable for general toolroom machining applications where AISI Type O1 material is specified.
Cutting and machining of tool steel flat stock should be performed by qualified machinists or toolmakers using appropriate tooling rated for steel. Wear appropriate PPE including eye protection and cut-resistant gloves when handling and cutting bar stock. Heat treatment should follow established procedures for AISI O1 tool steel, including proper preheat and quench in oil, and is typically performed by a qualified heat treat facility or experienced toolroom personnel. Deburr all machined edges before handling or fitment.
