The STARRETT 54069 is an O1 oil-hardening flat stock bar made from AISI Type O1 tool steel. It measures 0.25 inches thick, 0.375 inches wide, and 18 inches long, weighing 0.48 pounds. O1 tool steel is a general-purpose oil-hardening grade known for its dimensional stability during heat treatment and good machinability in the annealed condition. This flat stock is supplied in the annealed state and is intended for fabrication of cutting tools, punches, dies, gauges, and similar toolroom components. Machinists, tool-and-die makers, and maintenance technicians work with this material to produce precision tooling and fixtures.
This flat stock is suited for job shop, toolroom, and maintenance-department applications where O1 tool steel stock is cut to length and machined or ground to final shape before heat treatment. The 18-inch length allows for multiple short blanks from a single piece. The tight dimensional tolerances support direct use in gauge and fixture work where close fits are required prior to hardening and grinding.
Designed as a standard O1 oil-hardening tool steel flat bar for general toolroom, die-making, and fixture-fabrication applications requiring AISI Type O1 material in this cross-section.
Cutting, grinding, and machining of tool steel flat stock should be performed with appropriate metalworking equipment and personal protective equipment including eye and hand protection. Heat treatment of O1 tool steel requires oil quenching and should be performed by a qualified heat treater or toolmaker familiar with tool steel hardening procedures. Consult the material specification and applicable shop safety standards before cutting or heat treating. Secure workpieces properly during sawing or milling to prevent movement.
