The STARRETT 54029 is an O1 oil-hardening tool steel flat stock bar used in toolmaking, die making, jig construction, and precision machining applications. Manufactured to AISI Type O1 specification, this flat stock measures 5/32 inches thick, 3/4 inches wide, and 18 inches long. Thickness and squareness tolerances are held to plus or minus 0.001 inches, making it suitable for applications that require consistent dimensional accuracy before and after hardening. Machinists, tool and die makers, and fabrication shops stock this material for custom tooling and fixture work.
O1 tool steel is a general-purpose oil-hardening grade well suited for small-run tooling, punches, dies, gauges, and cutting tools. This flat bar format is ready to cut to length and machine to final dimensions. The 18-inch length and 3/4-inch width are common starting dimensions for hand tools, fixture rails, and small die components in both job shop and production environments.
Designed as a standard O1 oil-hardening tool steel flat stock suitable for toolmaking, die making, and general precision fabrication applications requiring an oil-quenched steel in flat bar form.
Cutting, grinding, and machining of tool steel flat stock should be performed by a qualified machinist using appropriate metalworking equipment. Heat treatment and oil quenching must follow established metallurgical procedures for AISI O1 tool steel. Proper personal protective equipment including eye protection and heat-resistant gloves is required during any thermal processing. Allow material to normalize to ambient temperature before performing precision measurements.
