The STARRETT 54001 is an O1 oil-hardening tool steel flat stock bar used in toolmaking, die making, jig fabrication, and precision machining applications. Manufactured to AISI Type O1 material specification, this flat stock measures 1/8 inch thick, 3/4 inch wide, and 18 inches long. Thickness tolerance is held to plus or minus 0.001 inches, making it suitable for applications that demand close dimensional control. At 0.48 pounds, the bar is ready for bench work, grinding, or heat treating in a shop environment. Machinists, tool-and-die makers, and mold makers are the primary users of this stock.
O1 tool steel flat stock is a standard material for fabricating cutting tools, punches, dies, gauges, and fixtures in both job shop and production toolroom environments. The oil-hardening characteristic of AISI O1 makes it well suited for applications where dimensional stability during heat treat is important. This bar is supplied in an annealed condition, allowing it to be machined and then hardened to final hardness by the end user through conventional oil-quench heat treatment. It is appropriate for low-to-medium production tooling where toughness and wear resistance are required.
Designed as a standard AISI O1 oil-hardening tool steel flat bar suitable for toolroom, die-making, and precision fixture fabrication applications requiring close dimensional tolerances.
O1 tool steel flat stock is machined and shaped by toolmakers prior to heat treatment. All grinding, drilling, and milling operations should be completed in the annealed state before oil-quench hardening. Wear appropriate PPE when performing heat treating operations. Follow applicable shop safety procedures and equipment manufacturer guidelines for furnace and quench tank operation.
