The STARRETT 53941 is an O1 oil-hardening tool steel flat stock bar used in toolmaking, die work, and precision machining applications. Manufactured to AISI Type O1 specification, this flat stock measures 1/32 inch thick, 4 inches wide, and 18 inches long, and weighs 0.64 pounds. The tight thickness tolerance of plus or minus 0.001 inches makes it suitable for applications requiring close dimensional control. Machinists, tool and die makers, and metalworking professionals use this material as raw stock for punches, dies, gauges, and cutting tools that will be hardened in oil after machining.
This flat stock is used in job shops, tool rooms, and manufacturing facilities where O1 tool steel is the specified material. O1 is a general-purpose oil-hardening steel known for its good machinability in the annealed state and its ability to hold a sharp edge after heat treatment. It is well suited for low-to-medium production tooling where high alloy steels are not required. The 18-inch length and 4-inch width provide workable blanks for a range of tooling layouts without excessive material waste.
Designed as a standard AISI O1 oil-hardening tool steel flat stock for general toolmaking and die-making applications where O1 specification material is required.
This material is supplied in the annealed state and is intended to be machined to final dimensions before oil hardening. Heat treatment should be performed by a qualified tool and die maker or heat treat professional following established procedures for AISI O1 steel. Secure workpieces properly during machining operations and use appropriate cutting fluids. Handle flat stock carefully on edges, as the ground surfaces can have sharp corners.
