The STARRETT 53063 is a mechanical double-end edge finder designed for locating workpiece edges and reference points on milling machines, drill presses, and machining centers. The tool features a 0.2-inch conical and cylindrical contact head on a 1/2-inch shank, giving machinists a reliable, repeatable method to establish X and Y zero positions without electronics or batteries. At 2.5 inches overall length and constructed of steel, the 53063 is a compact, durable shop tool suited for both manual and CNC setup operations. Machinists, tool and die makers, and CNC operators are the primary installers and users.
The STARRETT 53063 is used in machine shop environments for workpiece edge location during setup on vertical milling machines and similar equipment. The double-end configuration provides both conical and cylindrical contact styles in a single tool, allowing the operator to select the contact geometry best suited to the workpiece surface. It is appropriate for production shops, tool rooms, and maintenance machining operations where fast, accurate part setup is required.
Designed as a standard mechanical edge finder for use with milling machines, drill presses, and machining centers equipped with 1/2-inch collets or chucks.
Edge finders are installed by machinists and CNC setup technicians. Power down or place the machine in a safe setup mode before installing the tool in the spindle. Secure the shank firmly in the collet or chuck to the appropriate torque per the machine manufacturer's guidelines. Always verify spindle speed is set within the range appropriate for mechanical edge finders before use, and inspect the contact tip for wear or damage before each setup operation.
