The STARRETT 52860 is a single-leaf feeler gage used to measure and verify precise clearances in mechanical assemblies. The leaf measures 0.022 inches thick, 0.5 inches wide, and 12 inches long, with a parallel profile that delivers consistent thickness across the full length of the blade. Constructed from tempered steel, it resists flex and wear under repeated use. HVAC technicians, mechanics, and trade professionals use feeler gages to check valve clearances, contact gaps, bearing fits, and other tight-tolerance applications where accurate gap measurement is critical to equipment performance.
This gage is suited for field service and shop use in residential and commercial applications. Common uses include checking contactor gap spacing on HVAC equipment, measuring igniter and burner orifice clearances, verifying bearing and shaft fits, and setting valve lash during mechanical service. The 12-inch blade length provides reach into confined assemblies. The parallel leaf style makes it straightforward to use without requiring compensation for taper or variation along the blade.
Designed as a general-purpose feeler gage for use in HVAC, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical trade service applications where 0.022 inch gap measurement is required.
Feeler gages are installed and removed by hand without tools. Always power down or de-energize equipment before inserting a feeler gage into electrical contact gaps or live assemblies. Apply light, consistent pressure when sliding the blade into a gap — the blade should slip through with slight resistance to confirm proper clearance. Do not force the blade, as this can distort the tempered leaf and compromise measurement accuracy.
