The STARRETT 52751 is a dial indicator base kit designed for precision measurement tasks in industrial, mechanical, and trade service environments. The kit includes a magnetic base, an inch-reading dial indicator with a 0-25-0 reading scale, and an upright post assembly. The indicator measures up to 0.125 inches of travel with a dial graduation of 0.0005 inches, providing fine resolution for runout, deflection, and surface variation checks. The magnetic base mounts securely to ferrous machine surfaces and provides universal arm adjustment to position the indicator precisely. This kit is typically used by machinists, millwrights, HVAC equipment alignment technicians, and precision maintenance trades.
The 52751 kit suits applications where a portable, self-contained measurement setup is needed without a separate base and indicator purchase. The adjustable arm extends 9.5 inches, the upright post stands 7.44 inches tall, and the post diameter measures 0.375 inches. The magnetic base footprint measures 1.625 inches wide by 1.9375 inches long by 1.875 inches tall, making it compact enough for use in confined machine bays or equipment rooms. The 0-25-0 balanced dial reading allows the technician to measure deviation in either direction from zero without repositioning the indicator.
Designed as a self-contained OEM-style kit for use with standard inch-reading dial indicators. The included indicator is the 25-131J model. The base accepts standard post diameters of 0.375 inches.
Installation is performed by technicians familiar with precision measurement setups. Engage the magnetic base only on clean, flat ferrous surfaces free of chips, oil film, or scale to ensure a stable hold. Verify the indicator spindle is oriented perpendicular to the surface being measured to avoid cosine error. Do not exceed the indicator spindle travel limit, as forcing the plunger beyond its rated range can damage the internal gear train.
