The STARRETT 52617 is a 6-piece telescoping gage set designed to measure internal bore diameters from 5/16 inch to 6 inches. Each gage features a spring-loaded telescoping contact that locks in place, allowing the technician to transfer the measurement to an outside micrometer for a precise reading. Handles are polished steel, providing a clean, corrosion-resistant surface for shop use. The set covers the range most commonly needed for cylinder bores, bearing housings, and hydraulic component inspection. A fitted case is included for organized storage and transport on the job.
Telescoping gages are used across mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, and general trade service work wherever internal diameter measurement is required. Typical applications include checking bore wear in pumps, verifying pipe fitting clearances, and inspecting valve seats. The two handle lengths in this set — approximately 2-3/8 inches and 3-1/4 inches — allow access to both shallow and deeper bores. This set suits any technician who needs a reliable, portable internal measurement solution without investing in dedicated bore gauges.
Designed as a general-purpose internal measurement tool suitable for use in HVAC, plumbing, mechanical, and light industrial service applications where bore diameters from 5/16 inch to 6 inches are encountered.
Telescoping gages are measurement tools, not installed components. Compress the contacts, insert into the bore, release to allow contact with the bore wall, then lock the spindle before withdrawing. Transfer the locked measurement to a calibrated outside micrometer to obtain the final reading. Keep contact surfaces clean and lightly oiled when storing to prevent corrosion.
