The STARRETT 52173 is a mechanical depth micrometer designed for precise depth measurements in machining, fabrication, and inspection work. It covers a full 6-inch measurement range using a set of 6 interchangeable rotating rods, each with a 5/32-inch (3.97 mm) diameter. The thimble uses a ratchet stop mechanism for consistent measuring pressure, and the ring-type knurled lock nut holds readings securely once a measurement is taken. Graduation is 0.001 inches, with an accuracy rating of 0.0001 to 0.0002 inches, making it suitable for close-tolerance work. The satin chrome finish reduces glare under shop lighting. The 52173 is suited for measuring the depth of slots, bores, counterbores, steps, and recesses on workpieces in both job-shop and production environments.
