The STARRETT 52119 is a mechanical depth micrometer designed for precise depth measurement in machine shop, manufacturing, and industrial maintenance environments. The tool provides a measuring range of 6 inches using a set of 6 interchangeable rotating rods, each with a diameter of 0.125 inches (1/8 inch). Graduation is 0.001 inches, with an accuracy rating of 0.0001 to 0.0002 inches, making it suitable for applications demanding tight dimensional tolerances. A ratchet stop thimble delivers consistent measuring pressure, and a ring-type knurled lock nut provides quick, secure thimble locking once a reading is set. The 2.5-inch base length ensures stable contact across the workpiece surface during measurement.
This depth micrometer is used in precision machining, toolroom work, and quality control inspection on machined parts. It is well suited for measuring slot depths, blind hole depths, step heights, and shoulder depths on metal and other hard materials. Licensed machinists, toolmakers, and metrology technicians are the primary users. The included storage case keeps rods organized and protects the instrument when not in use.
Designed as an OEM-style mechanical depth micrometer for general precision measurement applications in toolroom and industrial settings.
Depth micrometers should be handled and stored by trained metrology or machining personnel. Before use, clean the base and rod contact surfaces and verify zero calibration against a known reference. No power source is required. Protect the instrument from impacts, temperature extremes, and moisture to maintain calibration integrity.
