The STARRETT 50564 is a precision bench level designed for accurate surface and machine leveling in shop, toolroom, and manufacturing environments. Built from cast iron, this 12-inch bench level provides a graduation sensitivity of 0.08 inches per 10 inches, making it well suited for applications where consistent, repeatable leveling is critical. Three vials allow the user to check level in multiple orientations without repositioning the tool. At 1.75 pounds, it is compact enough for bench use while providing the mass stability cast iron is known for. Machinists, tool and die makers, and precision mechanics are the primary users.
This bench level is used in machine setup, surface plate work, and equipment alignment in both production and maintenance settings. It is appropriate for leveling lathes, mills, surface grinders, and similar machinery where a reliable, low-sensitivity vial reading is required. The cast iron base resists flex and provides stable contact across machined surfaces. It can also be used for checking granite surface plates and inspection fixtures where tight tolerances are maintained.
Designed as an OEM-style precision bench level suitable for general machine tool setup, surface plate inspection, and equipment alignment in toolroom and manufacturing environments.
Bench levels are set and read by qualified machinists or millwrights during machine installation or periodic alignment checks. Clean and deburr all contact surfaces before placing the level to avoid false readings caused by chips or burrs. Avoid placing the level on surfaces with residual vibration, as vial readings will not stabilize. Store the level in its protective case when not in use to protect the cast iron base from corrosion and impact damage.
