The STARRETT 50117 is a double square with a 2.5-inch steel blade graduated in English increments of 1/32 inch and 1/64 inch. A double square functions as both a try square and a miter square, allowing the user to verify 90-degree and 45-degree angles from a single tool. The blade is 5/32 inch wide and seats into a hardened steel head that locks at the centerline of the stock. Layout techs, pipefitters, millwrights, and precision machinists rely on this tool for transferring measurements, scribing lines, and checking squareness on finished surfaces.
The 50117 suits precision layout and inspection work in machine shops, fabrication facilities, and light construction environments. Its compact 2.5-inch blade makes it practical for close-tolerance work in confined areas where a larger combination square would be unwieldy. The English graduation system covers standard fractional increments, making the tool directly readable against inch-based drawings and tolerances without conversion.
Designed as a general-purpose precision layout square suitable for use in machine shop, fabrication, and trade inspection applications requiring English-graduated measurement.
No installation is required for this hand tool. Before use, verify the blade locks securely in the head with no lateral play, as a loose blade will produce inaccurate readings. Clean mating surfaces of the workpiece before seating the head to prevent debris from introducing squareness error. Store the square in a protective case or pouch to prevent blade nicks that would compromise measurement accuracy.
