The STARRETT 40338 is a bi-metal hand hacksaw blade engineered for precision cutting in trade and industrial applications. Measuring 12 inches in length and 1/2 inch wide with a 0.025-inch thickness, this blade features a constant-pitch pattern at 32 teeth per inch, making it well-suited for cutting thin-wall tubing, conduit, and sheet metal. The cutting edge uses high speed steel teeth bonded to a flexible bi-metal body, combining edge hardness with resistance to blade breakage during hand-saw operation. Each package contains 2 blades.
This blade is designed for use with standard hand hacksaws that accept 12-inch blades. The 32 TPI constant-pitch configuration is appropriate for cutting thin materials where a finer pitch reduces tooth stripping and produces a cleaner kerf. Common applications include electrical conduit trimming, copper and steel tubing cuts, and sheet metal work in HVAC, plumbing, and electrical trades. Plumbers, electricians, and HVAC technicians will find this blade suited to everyday service calls and rough-in work where a hand saw is the practical tool of choice.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement blade for standard 12-inch hand hacksaw frames commonly used in plumbing, HVAC, and electrical trades.
Install the blade into the hacksaw frame with the teeth facing forward, away from the handle, and tension the blade firmly before cutting to prevent blade flex and wandering. Secure the workpiece in a vise or with an appropriate clamp before making cuts. No power tools or special certifications are required, but eye protection is recommended when cutting metal. Replace the blade when teeth show visible wear or when cut speed decreases noticeably.
