The STARRETT 40290 is a bi-metal power hacksaw blade built for use in stationary power hacksaw machines found in machine shops, fabrication facilities, and maintenance departments. At 12 inches in length, 5/8 inch wide, and 0.032 inch thick, it runs a constant 18 TPI pitch along a toothed edge designed to cut through a wide range of metals. The bi-metal construction bonds a high-speed steel tooth edge to a flexible alloy steel back, giving the blade resistance to tooth breakage while maintaining flexibility under the reciprocating load of a power hacksaw. Machinists, pipefitters, and maintenance technicians are the primary installers of this blade type.
This blade is suited for cutting solid bar stock, pipe, tubing, and structural sections in metal fabrication and industrial maintenance settings. The 18 TPI constant pitch pattern is appropriate for medium-wall tubing, thin-to-medium bar stock, and materials where a consistent chip load is preferred over a variable pitch. It is sold individually and is a direct drop-in format for standard 12 inch power hacksaw blade holders.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement blade for standard 12 inch power hacksaw machines that accept 5/8 inch wide by 0.032 inch thick blade stock.
Power hacksaw blades are installed by machinists or maintenance technicians. Always power down and de-energize the machine before removing or installing a blade. Verify that the blade is tensioned to the machine manufacturer's specification using the machine's built-in tensioning mechanism, and confirm the blade guides are set to the correct width for a 5/8 inch blade before operation.
