The STARRETT 16989 is a bi-metal reciprocating saw blade designed for demanding cut applications in metal, wood, and composite materials. The blade measures 6 inches in length with a 0.050-inch thickness and features a variable pitch tooth pattern ranging from 6 to 10 teeth per inch (TPI), allowing it to handle both fast rough cuts and cleaner finish cuts without changing blades. The tapered profile and angled tip improve clearance in tight spaces. Each package contains two blades. This blade is installed by electricians, plumbers, HVAC techs, and general contractors during rough-in, demolition prep, and maintenance work.
The STARRETT 16989 suits residential and light commercial trade work wherever a reciprocating saw is the tool of choice. Its universal shank fits the vast majority of reciprocating saw models on the market, making it a practical carry-on for service vans and job boxes. The variable pitch tooth geometry reduces vibration during cutting and extends blade life across a range of materials including conduit, copper tubing, cast iron, lumber with fasteners, and PVC. It is not rated for rescue or demolition-specific applications.
The universal shank is compatible with standard reciprocating saws from major tool manufacturers. Verify your saw accepts universal-shank blades before installation.
Blade changes must be performed with the saw unplugged or the battery pack removed to prevent accidental activation. Insert the blade fully into the chuck until it clicks and locks before applying power. Wear eye and hand protection during blade changes and cutting operations. Inspect blades before each use and discard any blade showing cracks, missing teeth, or deformation.
