The STARRETT 16280 is a welded bi-metal bandsaw blade built for continuous cutting of steel, stainless steel, exotic steel, and non-ferrous metals. It measures 7 feet 9-3/4 inches in length and 1/2 inch in width with a blade thickness of 0.035 inches. The variable-pitch tooth configuration runs 6 to 10 TPI, reducing vibration and harmonics during cuts. High-speed steel M42 teeth are set in a raker pattern with a positive rake angle, delivering aggressive stock removal while maintaining edge life on tough materials. This blade is a fit for production shops, metal fabrication operations, and maintenance trades running vertical or horizontal band saws.
The 16280 belongs to the Starrett Intenss PRO-DIE series, designed for contour cutting and straight cutting applications on ferrous and non-ferrous metals. It is well suited for shops cutting structural steel, stainless tube and bar, exotic alloys, and aluminum profiles. The flexible back construction allows the blade to track cleanly around bandsaw wheels without fatigue cracking during extended run cycles. Designed for use on bandsaw machines accepting a 7 feet 9-3/4 inch welded loop blade at 1/2 inch width. Verify wheel diameter and blade guide specifications on the host machine before installation.
Blade installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or fabricator familiar with bandsaw tensioning and tracking procedures. Power down and lockout the bandsaw completely before removing the old blade or mounting the new one. Wear cut-resistant gloves when handling the coiled blade, as the tooth edge is sharp along its full length. Confirm proper blade tension and tracking alignment per the machine manufacturer guidelines before resuming cuts.
