The STARRETT 16255 is a welded bi-metal bandsaw blade engineered for demanding metal-cutting applications in professional shop and industrial environments. Part of the Intenss PRO-DIE series, it runs 16 feet long, 1/2 inch wide, and 0.025 inches thick, with a variable pitch of 8 to 12 TPI. The M42 high speed steel tooth tips deliver hardness and heat resistance needed when cutting hard alloys and stainless. The flexible back design reduces blade fatigue during long cuts and curved contouring work. Licensed machinists, fabricators, and tool-and-die technicians are the primary installers and users of this blade.
This blade is suited for contour cutting on vertical bandsaws in production and job-shop settings. It is rated for steel, stainless steel, exotic steel, and non-ferrous metals, making it a versatile choice when a single blade must handle mixed-material cutting. The raker tooth set and positive rake angle promote aggressive chip clearance and consistent feed rates on both thin and thick cross-sections. Typical applications include structural shapes, tubing, solid bar stock, and plate work where a variable pitch helps reduce vibration and harmonics.
Designed for vertical bandsaws accepting a 16-foot, 1/2-inch wide blade. Verify wheel diameter, blade guides, and blade-tension specifications on the host saw before installation.
Blade installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or saw technician with the machine fully de-energized and locked out per OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Confirm blade tracking and tension according to the saw manufacturer guidelines before running under power. Wear cut-resistant gloves when handling the coiled blade, and ensure all blade guards and guides are properly set before resuming operation.
