The STARRETT 16246 is a welded bi-metal bandsaw blade designed for continuous cutting operations in metal fabrication and industrial shop environments. Part of the Intenss PRO-DIE series, it runs at 6 teeth per inch with a hook tooth form and raker set, delivering consistent chip clearance on moderate feed rates. The blade measures 12 feet 6 inches long and 0.5 inches wide with a 0.025-inch thickness, offering flexibility through a back type rated for contour work. The cutting teeth are high speed steel M42 grade, which holds an edge longer under heat compared to standard M2 bi-metal blades. Licensed metalworking technicians and tool room machinists are the primary installers.
This blade is suited for straight and contour cutting of steel, stainless steel, exotic steel, and non-ferrous metals. The constant pitch pattern and positive rake angle make it effective in production band saw machines where consistent stock removal and blade life matter. It performs well in both light structural and solid bar stock cutting applications in commercial and industrial settings. Typical installations are on vertical or horizontal band saws accepting a 0.5-inch wide blade path.
Designed for band saw machines accepting a 0.5-inch wide blade in a 12-foot 6-inch loop length. Suitable for cutting steel, stainless steel, exotic steel, and non-ferrous metals as stated by the manufacturer.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tool room technician familiar with band saw blade tensioning and tracking procedures. Power down and lock out the band saw completely before removing the old blade or mounting the new one. Follow the machine manufacturer's specified tension range for 0.5-inch bi-metal blades and confirm blade tracking on the wheels before closing guards and resuming operation. Wear cut-resistant gloves when handling coiled or uncoiled bandsaw blades.
