The STARRETT 16240 is a welded bi-metal bandsaw blade from the Intenss PRO series, built for continuous cutting on metal-cutting band saws. At 145 inches in overall length, 3/4 inches wide, and 0.035 inches thick, this blade is sized for stationary shop saws used in metalworking environments. The cutting edge features high speed steel teeth in a variable pitch pattern of 6 to 10 TPI with a raker tooth set and positive rake angle, a geometry that reduces vibration and improves chip clearance across a range of section sizes. Fabrication shops, tool rooms, and industrial maintenance technicians are the primary installers.
This blade is designed for cutting ferrous and non-ferrous metals, including structural steel, tubing, bar stock, aluminum extrusions, and similar materials. The variable pitch tooth pattern handles interrupted cuts and varying cross-sections better than a fixed-pitch blade. The flexible back construction allows the blade to run continuously on standard two- or three-wheel band saws without fatigue cracking at the weld. This is a single-piece welded blade sold individually, not in a coil.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or upgrade blade for stationary metal-cutting band saws accepting a 145-inch loop, 3/4-inch wide, 0.035-inch thick blade.
Band saw blade replacement is typically performed by a machinist or maintenance technician familiar with blade tensioning and tracking procedures. Disconnect and lock out power to the saw before removing the old blade or installing the new one. Set blade tension and tracking per the saw manufacturer specifications before making a cut. Wear cut-resistant gloves when handling the blade, as the tooth edge is sharp along its full length.
