The STARRETT 15846 is a bi-metal band saw blade coil stock designed for continuous-length cutting applications in metal fabrication, maintenance shops, and production environments. The coil format allows the blade to be cut to length and welded to fit a wide range of band saw machines. Constructed with a high speed steel toothed edge bonded to an alloy steel back, the blade delivers durability under demanding cutting cycles. At 0.025 inches thick and 1/2 inch wide, the 15846 runs a variable pitch of 10-14 teeth per inch with a raker tooth set and straight rake angle, making it well-suited for cutting a variety of cross-sections and material thicknesses.
This coil stock is used in industrial, fabrication, and tool room settings where technicians need to produce custom-length blades for vertical or horizontal band saws. The variable pitch tooth pattern reduces harmonic vibration during the cut, which is especially useful when working through varying stock dimensions or interrupted cuts. The contour cutting capability allows the blade to navigate curved and radius cuts in addition to straight-line work. Each coil provides 100 feet of usable blade stock, minimizing downtime between blade changes in high-volume operations.
Designed for use in band saw machines accepting 1/2 inch wide blade stock; coil must be cut to length and butt-welded to finished blade length using a blade welder appropriate for bi-metal stock.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or maintenance technician familiar with band saw blade welding and tensioning procedures. Power down and lock out the band saw before removing the old blade or installing a new one. Use a blade welder rated for bi-metal stock when joining cut sections; anneal and grind the weld area per the welder manufacturer's procedure. Verify blade tracking and guide clearances after installation before resuming operation.
