The STARRETT 14681 is a welded bi-metal bandsaw blade built for demanding metal-cutting applications in fabrication shops, tool rooms, and maintenance environments. Part of the Intenss PRO-DIE series, this blade measures 89 inches long and 0.5 inches wide, with a 0.035-inch thickness and a variable 8-12 TPI pitch pattern. The M42 high-speed steel tooth material provides heat resistance and edge retention when cutting hard or abrasive materials. A positive rake angle and raker tooth set combine to deliver aggressive, consistent chip clearance. Licensed metalworking professionals and skilled maintenance technicians are the primary installers.
This blade is suited for contour cutting on vertical band saws in both professional shop and tool-and-die environments. The variable pitch reduces harmonic vibration during cuts, making it effective on a wide range of metal thicknesses. Rated material applications include steel, stainless steel, exotic steel, and non-ferrous metals. The flexible back type allows the blade to track smoothly around saw wheels without premature fatigue cracking, making it appropriate for continuous-run production cutting as well as intermittent job-shop use.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement welded bandsaw blade for vertical band saws accepting a 89-inch blade with a 0.5-inch width and 0.035-inch thickness.
Blade installation should be performed by a qualified metalworking technician with the saw fully powered down and locked out per OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Verify wheel diameter, blade guide spacing, and blade tension settings match the saw manufacturer specifications before operating. Wear cut-resistant gloves when handling the blade loop, as tooth edges are sharp throughout the full length. Inspect blade welds and tooth condition before each use and replace at first sign of cracking or missing teeth.
