The STARRETT 12669 is a horizontal-style dial test indicator designed for precision measurement in machine shop, toolroom, and inspection environments. It covers a maximum measurement range of 0.03 inches with a fine graduation of 0.0005 inches per division, making it suitable for detecting small surface variations, runout, and alignment deviations. The 0-15-0 balanced dial face reads in both directions from zero, allowing direct plus-or-minus readings without manual calculation. The jeweled movement reduces friction and wear for repeatable, long-service accuracy. A satin chrome finish and high-contrast white dial improve readability under shop lighting. Machinists, tool-and-die makers, and QC technicians are the primary users.
This indicator fits typical horizontal mounting applications on surface plates, magnetic bases, transfer arms, and machine tool setups. The dovetail mount is the standard attachment method used across most indicator holders and back pliers. The narrow body design allows access to confined measurement areas. The automatic contact point reversal feature lets the indicator be used from either side of a feature without repositioning the holder. Two contact points are included, along with two dovetail clamps, a swivel post holder, a tool post holder, a contact wrench, and a carrying case, making it a complete setup for immediate field or bench use.
Designed for use with standard dovetail-style indicator holders and clamps. Fits typical horizontal dial test indicator mounting setups used in machine tool and inspection applications. Included dovetail clamps and holders are part of the STARRETT Series 3909.
Installation is performed by machinists or metrologists using the included dovetail clamps and post holders. Secure the dovetail shank firmly in the holder before applying contact pressure to prevent measurement error from indicator movement. Do not overtighten clamp screws, as distortion of the dovetail can affect repeatability. When mounting on a machine tool, ensure the spindle or workpiece is fully stopped before positioning the contact point.
