The STARRETT 12636 is a horizontal-style dial test indicator built for precise surface, runout, and alignment measurements in machine shop and inspection environments. It reads in a 0-5-0 bidirectional format with a 0.0001-inch graduation and a maximum measurement range of 0.008 inches per revolution. The 1-9/16-inch white dial face provides high contrast for clear reading under shop lighting. Internal jeweled bearings and a precision gear-driven mechanism support repeatable, low-friction operation. Machinists, toolmakers, and metrology technicians use this indicator for setups on mills, lathes, surface plates, and CMM fixtures.
This indicator is suited to machine tool setups requiring fine measurement resolution where a standard plunger-type indicator would be too bulky. The narrow horizontal body allows access in tight fixture locations. The dovetail mount provides a secure and repeatable attachment point on standard indicator holders and magnetic bases. The contact point reverses automatically during bidirectional use, and the adjustable replaceable contact accommodates different probing angles. The package includes two contact points, two dovetail clamps, a swivel post holder, a tool post holder, a contact wrench, and a carrying case.
Designed for use with standard dovetail-style indicator holders, magnetic bases, and tool post holders used in machine shop and inspection setups. Compatible with setups requiring ANSI and ASME-compliant dial test indicators.
Dial test indicators of this type are installed and used by machinists, toolmakers, and metrology technicians. Secure the dovetail mount firmly in the holder clamp before zeroing the dial to avoid drift during measurement. Do not apply side loads beyond the indicator arm travel range, as this can damage the gear mechanism. When switching contact points, use the included contact wrench to avoid damaging the threaded tip.
