The STARRETT 12527 is a horizontal-style dial test indicator designed for precision measurement in machine shops, tool rooms, and calibration environments. It covers a maximum measurement range of 0.03 inches with a fine graduation of 0.0005 inches, making it suited for tight-tolerance inspection work. The 0-15-0 bidirectional dial face is printed on a high-contrast white background with a satin chrome finish body, and the movement is jeweled for durability and smooth, repeatable readings. The narrow body profile and dovetail mount allow it to fit in confined setups where a standard plunger-type indicator will not reach. Machinists, toolmakers, and quality technicians are the primary users of this instrument.
The STARRETT 12527 is used in surface plate inspection, lathe and mill setup, runout checks, and fixture alignment. The horizontal contact point orientation makes it well suited for measuring in planes where a vertical plunger indicator would interfere with the workpiece or fixturing. The contact point reverses automatically, eliminating the need to reposition the indicator when changing direction of travel. The included dovetail clamps allow attachment to standard indicator holders, magnetic bases, and surface gauge arms commonly found in metrology setups. This indicator ships with two dovetail clamps, a contact point, and a protective case.
Designed for use with standard dovetail-style indicator holders and magnetic base arms. Series 3909 indicator. Fits setups requiring a horizontal-style dial test indicator with dovetail mounting.
Dial test indicators are installed by qualified machinists, toolmakers, and metrology technicians. Secure the dovetail mount firmly in the indicator holder before taking measurements to prevent slip during contact. Avoid overtightening the dovetail clamp, as this can distort the indicator body and affect accuracy. Handle the contact point and spindle carefully; impacts or side-loading beyond the rated range can damage the jeweled movement.
