The STARRETT 12520 is a horizontal-style dial test indicator designed for precision dimensional measurement in machining, toolroom, and metrology applications. It features a jeweled bearing movement and a precision gear-driven design that delivers accurate readings across a 0.2 mm measurement range with 0.002 mm graduations. The 1-9/16 inch diameter dial is finished in high-contrast yellow for easy reading under shop conditions. The narrow body profile allows access in tight setups where a standard dial indicator would not fit. The 12520 is suited for surface plate inspection, machine tool setup, fixture verification, and part runout checks in both job shop and production environments. Installation is performed by machinists or quality technicians using a dovetail clamp and a compatible indicator holder or magnetic base arm. Secure the dovetail clamp firmly before taking measurements to prevent indicator movement during contact. Verify that the contact point is properly threaded and seated before use. Follow ANSI and ASME B89 metrology practices for zeroing and calibration verification prior to production inspection work.
