The STANLEY 42-193 is a 3-inch plastic line level designed for establishing level reference points during layout and grading work. The unit hooks onto a taut string line, allowing the user to read level without a helper or secondary instrument. At 0.04 pounds, it is lightweight enough to avoid affecting string tension on standard layout runs. Tradespeople in plumbing, electrical rough-in, and general construction use line levels for tasks such as setting drain slope, aligning conduit runs, and laying out footings or formwork.
This line level is suited to residential and light commercial construction and service work. Common applications include drain-line slope verification, trench grading, fence post alignment, and masonry coursing. The compact 3-inch body keeps the tool out of the way on congested layout strings. It is sold individually and is a standard item in a plumber's or electrician's layout kit.
Designed as a general-purpose line level compatible with standard mason's string, nylon layout line, and similar cordage used in construction and trade layout work.
Hook the line level onto a taut, horizontal string at approximately the midpoint of the span for the most accurate reading. Ensure the string is pulled firmly before reading the vial, as slack will produce false level indications. No special tools are required. Follow applicable project specifications and local codes when using level reference for drain slope or structural layout.
