Product Description

The Square D A9.85 Thermal Unit is designed to provide protection for motors, controllers, and branch circuit conductors from overheating caused by prolonged motor overcurrents, including locked rotor situations. This unit trips in twenty seconds or less during overload conditions, ensuring timely protection. The construction is one-piece, facilitating a direct heat transfer as the motor current passes through a heater winding within the unit. If an overload occurs, a special solder melts, allowing a ratchet wheel to disengage, which then opens the control circuit contacts and motor contacts.
