The SPI Z3300 is a coordinate measuring machine (CMM) ball stylus designed for high-precision dimensional inspection. Fitted with a ruby ball tip measuring 3 mm in diameter, the stylus delivers consistent, repeatable contact with workpiece surfaces across a wide range of measurement tasks. The overall length is 20 mm, and the stylus threads on M2 at both the stylus and probe ends. Ruby is a preferred point material in CMM applications because of its hardness, wear resistance, and dimensional stability over time. Metrologists, quality technicians, and CMM operators install and use this type of stylus in production and inspection environments.
This stylus is suited for use in both light manufacturing and precision inspection environments where accurate surface contact is critical. The M2 thread size is a standard interface common across a broad range of CMM probe bodies and extension systems, making it compatible with typical benchtop and gantry-style CMM setups. It is appropriate for inspection of machined parts, castings, and assemblies in quality control labs and on the shop floor.

CMM styli are installed and qualified by trained metrologists or CMM operators. Before changing a stylus, power down or pause the CMM program and follow the probe manufacturer's threading guidelines to avoid cross-threading or overtightening the M2 connection. After installation, always re-qualify the stylus using the CMM's calibration sphere before taking inspection measurements. Handle the ruby ball carefully to avoid chipping, which would affect measurement accuracy.
