The SPI MS160712032 is a magnetic indicator base designed to hold dial indicators, test indicators, and similar precision measurement instruments during inspection and layout work. The base uses a switchable permanent magnet, rated at 100 kilograms of magnetic pull, to secure the unit to ferrous machine surfaces, surface plates, and equipment frames. An integrated on/off switch lets the technician release or engage the magnet without tools. The flexible articulating arm and post give the operator fine positioning control when setting up indicator runs or checking runout, flatness, and alignment. Machinists, quality technicians, and tool-room professionals are the primary users.
This base is suited for use on machining centers, lathes, surface grinders, inspection tables, and similar ferrous work surfaces. The post height of 200 mm and rod length of 350 mm allow reach across medium-size workpieces. The mounting stem accepts shafts up to 8 mm in diameter, which is standard for most dial and test indicator shanks used in precision metrology setups. It fits stationary and portable inspection applications in manufacturing, maintenance, and quality assurance environments.
Designed as a standard magnetic indicator base for use with dial indicators, test indicators, and precision measurement instruments using an 8 mm or smaller mounting stem diameter.
Ensure the mounting surface is clean, flat, and free of chips, oil film, or scale before engaging the magnet, as surface contamination reduces effective holding force. Power down or lock out any machine before positioning the base on live spindle or table surfaces. The on/off switch should always be in the off position when repositioning the base to prevent uncontrolled movement of the indicator. Installation and setup are typically performed by machinists or metrology technicians following shop-specific inspection procedures.
