The SPI MS160412016 is a magnetic-base indicator positioner holder designed for precision measurement tasks in machine shop and metrology environments. It features an articulated arm mounted to a rectangular magnetic base with a 175-pound magnetic pull force, providing a secure, vibration-resistant hold on ferrous machine surfaces. Fine adjustment capability allows technicians to position dial indicators, test indicators, and similar instruments with high positional accuracy. The base stands approximately 2.17 inches tall and extends 60 mm in length, and the overall arm assembly reaches 365 mm in total length. The unit ships complete with the magnetic base included. This tool is installed by machinists, metrologists, and quality control technicians performing runout checks, surface comparisons, or setup verification.
This indicator holder is suited for use in precision machining, grinding, and inspection setups where a stable, repositionable instrument mount is required. The articulated arm design allows the indicator to be positioned at virtually any angle relative to the workpiece or machine table. It is appropriate for both manual machining centers and inspection benches equipped with ferrous steel surfaces. The magnetic on/off base allows the user to reposition the holder quickly without disturbing adjacent fixturing.

Installation is performed by machinists or metrology technicians on clean, flat ferrous steel surfaces such as machine tables, surface plates with a steel base, or machine castings. Ensure the mounting surface is free of chips, coolant, and debris before activating the magnetic base to achieve full rated pull force. De-energize the magnetic base before repositioning the arm to avoid uncontrolled movement of the indicator. The unit does not require tools for setup but should be inspected periodically for arm joint wear that could reduce positional stability.
