The SPI CMS160725108 is a dial drop indicator designed for precision dimensional measurement in machining, inspection, and quality-control applications. It features a 0.001 inch graduation with a 0-50-0 dial reading and a total range of 0.25 inch, making it suitable for detecting small surface variations, checking runout, and verifying part alignment. The 2.2 inch white dial face and revolution counter support fast, accurate readings during repeated checks. Accuracy is rated at 0.002 inch. Machinists, toolmakers, and metrology technicians are the primary users of this instrument.
This dial drop indicator is used in machine shop environments, inspection departments, and production lines where surface comparisons and deviation measurements are required. The flat back and 3/8 inch stem diameter allow it to seat in standard indicator holders and magnetic bases. The universal positioning capability makes it adaptable to a wide range of fixture setups on mills, lathes, surface plates, and inspection fixtures.
Designed to fit standard dial indicator holders, dovetail clamps, and magnetic base stems accepting a 3/8 inch diameter shank, which is a common mounting configuration across most inspection and machine-tool setups.
Dial drop indicators are installed and serviced by machinists, toolmakers, and metrology technicians. Before mounting, ensure the indicator stem is fully seated and the clamping screw engages the stem without side-loading the spindle. Zero the indicator against a known reference surface before taking measurements. Avoid overtravel beyond the rated range, as this can damage the internal gear train.
