The SPI CMS160714032 is a dial drop indicator designed for high-precision dimensional measurement in machining, inspection, and quality control environments. It delivers a 0.4 inch total range with a fine graduation of 0.0005 inches per division, allowing machinists and metrologists to detect very small deviations in surface runout, flatness, and part alignment. The 2.2 inch white dial with 0-50 reading scale and jeweled bearing movement supports repeatable, low-friction measurements. A measuring force of 1.50 N keeps contact pressure consistent across readings. This indicator is installed by machinists, tool room technicians, and quality inspectors on surface plates, magnetic bases, and indicator stands.
The CMS160714032 is suited for use in machine shops, tooling rooms, and manufacturing inspection stations where tight tolerances are required. The lug and flat back mounting options accommodate a wide range of indicator holders and transfer stands. The included NIST traceability certification and short form certificate of calibration make this indicator appropriate for ISO-compliant inspection workflows and regulated production environments. Each range per revolution is 0.05 inches, which supports fine incremental work at the bench or on the machine.
Designed as an OEM-style drop indicator compatible with standard 3/8 inch stem indicator holders, lug-back mounts, and flat-back surface plate stands used in general machining and inspection applications.
Installation is performed by machinists or quality technicians using a compatible indicator holder or magnetic base. Secure the stem clamp firmly before zeroing the dial to prevent movement during measurement. Ensure the contact point is perpendicular to the measured surface to avoid cosine error. Handle jeweled-bearing indicators carefully to avoid shock loads that can damage the movement.
