The SPI CMS160412054 is a mechanical point micrometer designed for precision measurement in tight grooves, keyways, and narrow recesses where standard flat-anvil micrometers cannot reach. It covers a 0 to 1 inch measurement range and delivers accuracy to 0.0001 inch. Both the spindle and anvil are ground carbide with matching 30-degree point angles, providing consistent contact geometry on hardened workpiece surfaces. A ratchet stop thimble controls measuring force to prevent over-tightening and protect measurement accuracy. The painted frame includes a heat shield to minimize thermal transfer from the technician's hand during use. A short-form certificate of calibration is included.
This micrometer is suited for machine shops, tool rooms, and precision inspection environments where internal feature measurement or narrow-contact applications are routine. Typical uses include measuring wall thickness between grooves, checking thread root geometry, and gauging narrow lands on machined parts. It is operated by machinists, metrology technicians, and quality control inspectors working to close tolerances. The rotating spindle design allows the tool to be positioned without disturbing the measurement setup.
Designed as a standard 0 to 1 inch range mechanical point micrometer suitable for general precision measurement tasks requiring narrow-contact anvil and spindle geometry.
Point micrometers are hand tools that require no installation, but proper care is essential for maintaining calibration. Store the tool in the included case when not in use and avoid dropping or impacting the carbide points. Before use, verify the zero setting against a known standard and clean contact surfaces with a lint-free cloth. Calibration should be checked periodically per shop metrology procedures or applicable ISO standards.
