The SPI 98-359-3 is a magnetic-base indicator positioner holder designed for use with dial indicators, test indicators, and similar precision measurement instruments. It features a 175 lb magnetic pull force, providing stable, vibration-resistant holding power on ferrous surfaces during inspection and layout work. The post-and-arm configuration with fine adjustment capability allows technicians to position the indicator with precise, repeatable control. Constructed from aluminum, the holder is lightweight without sacrificing rigidity. A round magnetic base is included. This tool is used by machinists, toolmakers, quality control inspectors, and maintenance technicians in machine shops, fabrication facilities, and industrial maintenance environments.
The SPI 98-359-3 is suited for surface plate work, machine tool setup, and in-process inspection where a stable, adjustable indicator mount is required. The magnetic base attaches directly to any flat ferrous surface, making it practical for use on milling machine tables, lathe beds, surface plates, and similar ferrous workholding or machine surfaces. Fine adjustment allows the user to dial in exact indicator contact point positioning without repositioning the entire base. The included arm and holder complete the setup out of the box, requiring no additional mounting hardware for standard applications.
Designed as an OEM-style positioner holder compatible with standard 3/8 inch shank dial indicators and test indicators used in precision metrology and machine shop inspection applications.
Installation is performed by machinists or metrology technicians and requires no special tools. Ensure the mounting surface is clean, flat, and free of chips or debris before energizing the magnetic base, as surface contamination reduces holding force. Always deactivate the magnetic base before repositioning the arm or adjusting the indicator. Verify indicator contact force and arm rigidity before taking measurements to ensure reading accuracy.
