The SPI 98-325-4 is a mechanical edge and center finder designed for use in milling machines, drill presses, and CNC setups where precise workpiece location is required. The double-end design provides a 0.2-inch diameter head with both conical and cylindrical contact surfaces, allowing the operator to locate part edges and center positions with an accuracy of 0.0002 inches (5 micrometers). The shank diameter is 3/8 inch, making it compatible with standard collets and drill chucks. At 0.4 pounds, the tool is lightweight and simple to handle during setup. No power source is required — the mechanical operation requires no batteries or electronics.
This edge and center finder is used in machine shop environments for workpiece setup prior to milling, drilling, or boring operations. Machinists and CNC setup technicians use it to establish X and Y datum positions on a workpiece relative to the machine spindle. The conical contact end suits center-finding tasks, while the cylindrical end is used for edge location. It is suited for both manual and CNC milling setups in job shop, production, and maintenance machining environments.
Designed for use with milling machines, drill presses, and CNC machining centers that accept a 3/8-inch shank collet or chuck. Suitable for standard machine shop setup and workpiece location procedures.
Install this finder into a 3/8-inch collet or drill chuck and tighten securely before use. Power down the machine spindle and confirm the tool is fully seated before beginning any edge-finding procedure. Handle the contact tip carefully to avoid damage that could affect accuracy. This tool is intended for setup use only — do not use it as a cutting tool.
