The SPI 98-260-3 is an automatic center punch designed for marking precise starting points on metal, wood, and other hard surfaces before drilling. The spring-loaded mechanism delivers a consistent impact without the need for a hammer, keeping the work secure and the mark accurate. Built from steel, it measures 5 inches overall and produces a 5/8-inch punch impression. It is a standard layout and setup tool used by machinists, pipefitters, electricians, and general trade professionals in fabrication and field service applications.
This automatic center punch is suited for use in metal fabrication shops, mechanical rooms, and field installation environments. It is commonly used when laying out drill points on steel pipe, conduit, sheet metal, structural steel, and similar hard materials. The tool is well matched to applications where repetitive, consistent marking is required without a secondary striking tool.
Designed as a general-purpose automatic center punch suitable for use on steel, metal pipe, conduit, sheet metal, and similar hard surfaces in trade and fabrication applications.
Position the punch tip firmly on the marked layout point and apply downward pressure until the internal spring mechanism releases and drives the punch. Secure the workpiece before marking to prevent movement. When working on energized systems or near live circuits, follow applicable NEC lockout and de-energization procedures before drilling. Eye protection is recommended during all punching and drilling operations.
